Mobile mechanic, shop, or tow? How to decide when the car won't move
If the car will not start or should not be driven, a mobile mechanic who comes to it is usually the first call — a tow moves the problem, a shop needs you to get there. The exceptions are jobs that need a lift or a state-authorized station.

Call a mobile mechanic when
The car will not start (battery, starter, alternator), a warning light is on, the brakes are making noise, something is leaking, or the car runs but you do not trust it on the freeway. All of those are diagnosed and most are fixed where the car sits.
A shop is right when
The job needs a lift for hours, an alignment rack, a press, or specialist equipment — transmission rebuilds, alignments, some timing jobs. A good mobile mechanic tells you that on the first call, and you have saved the tow to find out.
A tow is right when
The car is somewhere it cannot safely stay and cannot be worked on — a live freeway lane, a blocked driveway, a flood — or the repair is definitely a shop job. Even then, a mobile diagnosis first can tell you WHICH shop and for what, so the tow goes once.
